Merrill Pungarte Bray is an Indigenous Artist of the Eastern and Northern Aranda group from alica Springs. Merrill Bray's artworks are contemporary dot paintings, which she describes as uniquely depicting macro and micro : "Under the microscope and out in the universe, which are both one and the same, whilst also existing at different level."

1st Design proposal:
to have a glass roof above, to shield of bad weather and to open up the courtyard space.
Thus,  glass door to courtyard space could be removed and doors unlocked.
Pros:

  • able to ventilate bad air from the inside gathering space
  • connecting both inside and outside space, visually and spatially
Cons:
  • exceed given bud

File:Fed square tiles.jpg
 the main square is paved in 470,000 ochre-coloured sandstone blocks from Western Australia[13] and invokes images of the Outback. The paving is designed as a huge urban artwork, called Nearamnew, by Paul Carter and gently rises above street level, containing a number of textual pieces inlaid in its undulating surface.

2nd Design Proposal:

  • adding suspended light by metal wire, inspired by Federation Square public space
  • OR, suspended recycled umbrella above courtyard space (the unused umbrella could be transformed into an art piece by Indigenous artist)
As a result of that transformation, the whole courtyard space could turn into 'sanctuary' courtyard space for the patients at Monash Medical centre.

"Escape" pods Design Proposal:

Design Sketches, for seating pods.
A place to escape to, for the patients.

PARAMETRIC DESIGN
~using digital tools (Rhinoceros+Grasshopper) to create an "escape pod" for the medical centre
creating form for the 'escape pod',
lofting each curves to generate a dynamic space within

evaluate the surface

joined the points to create polyline which forms hexigonal grid

Hexi grid later on could be adjusted with a slider in Grasshopper

Extrude hexi-grid to create the panelling

Still in the process of finding/creating the right direction for extrusion

My design intention similar to this student project in Romania, which is to enable Monash medical Centre to fabricate the "escape pod". However, mine is done in a much smaller scale.

The use of computational architecture design which empowered by digital tools.

Manipulation of Rhino+Grasshopper to create a dynamic spatial experience.

Available Dimensions
Austral Plywood has the largest range of panel sizes and thicknesses. The standard dimensions generally available are:

Length
2400 and 2700mm

Width
1200mm

Thickness
Thicknesses range from 1.5mm to 32mm, with thicknesses exceeding 32mm available on request.

Re-Use / Recycle / Sustainable

~using everyday object to create Aboriginal Art in the courtyard space

* create preferred seating pods’ form-set one geometry in Grasshopper

* set boounding box

* dividing lines by setting up box corners
* extruding lines & dividing panels then create planar surface

* create planar surface for seating pod

* manipulate thickness for each panel

* create bounding box & dissecting panels to create joints

* create joints to slot each panels together

* [waffle_1]creating bounding box

* [waffle_2]dissecting/ ceating panel and planar surface

* [waffle_3]thickness control (plywood panel)

[waffle_4]difference out joints

 [Possible] Transformation

Series of transformation for Indigenous artwork,
and these 'escape' pods could be allocate
